This fantastic Galapagos tour in this really unique location combines scuba diving adventures with a nice range of land-based excursions and is suitable for divers from beginners to intermediate level.
Day 1 -Santa Cruz Island & Garrapatero Beach
Your Galapagos tour starts with you flying from Quito or Guayaquil to the Galapagos airport of Baltra. From here we transfer you to Santa Cruz Island main town, Puerto Ayora, and your hotel. After a delicious lunch we take you to Garrapatero Beach a great place to relax and to start spotting some of the endemic wildlife such as Galapagos penguins, mockingbirds and marine iguanas. We also have the chance to visit a nearby freshwater lake for some more bird species. We then return to the hotel for a dinner and briefing.
Day 2 – Diving & Charles Darwin Research Station
Today we hit the water and strap on our oxygen tanks to explore some of the fantastic marine wildlife around Santa Cruz. We hope to see sharks, rays, eels, jellyfish, snappers, Hawkfish, Burrfish and Angel Fish amongst others
After lunch we take a visit to the Charles Darwin Research Station. Once the home of the famous Lonesome George, we will learn all about the flora and fauna of the islands and get to see many other giant tortoises wandering freely about. A briefing and dinner at the hotel rounds off the day
Day 3- Morning diving and then across to Isabela Island
After another fantastic morning’s diving in the clear tropical waters we head across by boat to the island of Isabela with opportunities to spot species such as whales, dolphins, sharks, whale sharks and rays along the way. On arrival at your hotel you will be greeted with a local cocktail, and a briefing and dinner wraps up the day.
Day 4 – Morning diving then Las Tintoreras
Today we take two dives in the morning with the chance to see Hammerheads, Galapagos Groupers, Galapagos Sheephead, Tuna, Harlequin Wrasse, Barracuda, Grey Grunts Corals,Tubes amongst other things
After lunch we head out to the area known as Las Tintoreras and take a walk across the lava fields with mangrove trees to one side. Today we hope to see, penguins, boobies, white tipped reef sharks,turtles, sea lions and marine iguanas. If people are feeling fit we can then head to Cerro Ochilla where we climb up the stairs for fantastic views. Then we carry on to the famous Wall of Tears, so names because it was built by prisoners between 1946 and 1959. They were in fact building their future prison but it was never finished and the penal colony was disbanded. We will see plenty of animals as we visit these two sites before returning to our hotel for a briefing and dinner.
Day 5 – Diving at Cuatro Hermanos Islands & free afternoon
We spend a morning diving at the fantastic site of Cuatro Hermanos, or The Four Brothers. These small islands give us the opportunity to see Galapagos Grunts, Parrotfish, Creole, Puffers, Bacalao, Snappers, Sea horse, Turtles, Panamic Soldierfish, Wrasse, Stingrays, Marbled Rays, Galapagos Blenny, Panamic Fanged Blenny, Trumpetfish, Cornetfish, Moray eels, Barberfish, Yellowtail Surgeonfish, Moorish Idol, Sea Stars amongst other things. One happy client described it as being like a “highway of fish”.
After lunch we drive out, looking for flamingo and take a walk amongst the swamps on a raised platform before heading to the beautiful Beach of Love.The day is rounded off as always by a briefing and another delicious dinner.
Day 6 – End Galapagos tour & back to Quito or Guayaquil
After breakfast we will transfer you back to the Baltra airport from your flight back to either Quito or Guayaquil. As the plane takes off, do not forget to look down on the islands on which you have enjoyed a fantastic Galapagos tour.
