Most Peru tour companies sell you a Machu Picchu tour with just one day to visit the ruins. It is not even a full day, as by the time you have got there, half the day is already gone.
Here at Escaped to Latin America, we try to do things differently. While we can of course custom-make you a tour with a one day visit to Machu Picchu, we recommend that you take two days.
It may cost you a bit more, but for many people taking a Peru vacation, Machu Picchu is the highlight, it is the big draw that brings most people to Peru in the first place. So it would be a shame to rush it.
Generally, you will do your guided tour of Machu Picchu on the first day, and then you have a few hours to explore on your own.
Huayna Picchu is one option that most people have heard of, but there is so much more to do here, both in the archaeological complex itself and also out of Aguas Calientes, the town where you will spend the night, if taking a two-day visit to Machu Picchu.
To climb Huayna Picchua and Machu Picchu mountain, we require you to inform us at the time of booking, so we can get you one of the limited availability tickets.
There are many other options that you can just do when you choose on the spur of the moment and you do not need a guide for any of them. Read here to find out about the wonderful options on offer, which mean that if you want to explore Machu Picchu properly you really need to allow two days.
